Abstract: Future electron-ion colliders will focus on the unitarity properties of deep inelastic scattering in the limit of strong nuclear absorption. Strong nuclear shadowing and a large abundance of coherent diffraction are the most striking consequences of unitarity. Quantitative predictions for these effects in the kinematical range of the planned electron-ion colliders are reported.
