Abstract: A material was developed to absorb hydrogen during its production in a final repository. The absorption material consists of electrolytically prepared MnO$_{2}$ catalytically activated by Ag$_{2}$O. The preparation technique of the material was optimized. The kinetics of hydrogen absorption was investigated. The capacity of the material was found to be 0.2 m$^{3}_{STP}$ H$_{2}$/kg MnO$_{2}$. The applicability of the material was shown by a demonstration test simulating the conditions in a rock salt repository.
