Abstract: The burn-up status of spherical HTR-fuel elements is determined by a $\gamma$-spectrometric analysis of Cs-137 activity. The $\gamma$-spectrum recorded by a semiconductor detector up to now is analyzed by complex mathematical and time-consuming methods. For the operation of the HTR-Module-Reactor, however, a fast evaluation of the burn-up status is necessary. In the present work it is shown that this can be ensured by a comparison between the measured spectra and simulation results. Using the computer-program HTROGEN and the new program system SPECCALC especially developed for this problem the $\gamma$-spectra are evaluated as a function ofthe burn-up status. The new developed method is applied to results available from the operation ofthe AVR-reactor. The burn-up status determined with different methods corresponds very well within the limits of accuracy.
