Abstract: A simple two-point representation of the tokamak scrape-off layer (SOL) in the conduction limited regime, based on the parallel and perpendicular energy balance equations in combination with the heat flux width predicted by a heuristic drift-based model, was used to derive a scaling for the cross-field thermal diffusivity ${\chi }_{\perp }.$ For fixed plasma shape and neglecting weak power dependence indexes 1/8, the scaling ${\chi }_{\perp }\propto {P}_{{\rm{S}}{\rm{O}}{\rm{L}}}/(n{B}_{\theta }{R}^{2})$ is derived.
