Abstract: A new method for the transition from quanturn to classical mechanics in potential scattering theory is presented. The incoming wave packet is decomposed into many narrow wave packets with different impact parameters, whose width becomes small inside the potential. In the classical limit this decomposition has the following two properties: 1) Only certain impact parameters depending on the direction of observation contribute to the transition amplitude. 2) In the equation of motion for each narrow wave packet the potential can be expanded about the momentary center of mass. To get the classical cross section in general directions terms of second order have to be included.
