Abstract: The global transition toward sustainable hydrogen production is driving interest in anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) as a cost-effective technology. This work provides an overview of the fundamental principles of AEMWE, the key challenges currently limiting their use, and the application of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to study ion transport in AEMs. Critical factors influencing ionic transport are discussed.
