Abstract: In the first developmental phase of microbial processes, relevant parameters for reaction engineering are investigated and optimized with parallel experiments in small reactors (shake flask scale) . Substrate concentrations are central process parameters . Their control might help to increase efficiency and quality of this developmental phase . Thus, a parallel, automatic and sterile sampling technique wich hollow fiber membranes was developed that suits the Small reaction volume. The parallel sampling modules were connected to a Substrate analysis system. The combination of the analytical technique with a controller and a precise microdosing System for Substrate closed the control loop. The prototype device was characterized and its suitability for online monitoring and control of bioprocesses confirmed . This technique allows for the firnt time online measurement and control of Substrate concentrations in parallel bioreactions (i.e . with Escherichia coli) wich measuring raten of the order of minutes
