Abstract: A model for PEMFC cathode impedance is developed. The model includes transient response of catalyst layer proton conductivity to cell current density variation. Analytical solution shows that transient conductivity leads to formation of a low–frequency inductive loop in the Nyquist spectrum. This loop has been observed in numerous experiments and its nature has long been discussed in literature. The results of this work provide a new mechanism of loop formation
